Original Mission

THE SHOW GOES ON
Rising from the "ashes" of the lost Opera House, Shakespeare-under-the-Stars, Music-under-the-Stars, and the ghostly Amphitheatre, Center Stage was founded in 1971 by a group of citizens who wished to revitalize the community theater tradition in Yellow Springs.

Since that time, Center Stage has mounted over 100 performances: musicals (including all of Gilbert & Sullivan), comedies, mysteries, drama, and original works by community authors.

The group's early productions were staged in the gymnasium of a high school which had been converted into a community center.

Because of limited facilities and availability, Center Stage moved in 1975 to its present quarters, 136 Dayton Street--'the heart of metropolitan Yellow Springs."

A "FORD THEATER?"
The building once was an automobile agency, and the tiled lobby is the former showroom. The auditorium is converted from the previous repair shop and contains comfortable, modern seating. Heating and air conditioning are available according to the season.

A small art gallery, with rotating exhibits, adjoins the lobby.

ALL-VOLUNTEER COMPANY
Center Stage is one of the few community theaters that thrive totally on volunteers.

Voluntary Manager and Artistic Director is Jean Hooper, veteran actress and director known in scores of performances in the Yellow Springs-Dayton-Springfield area.

Other functions of the company are also performed by volunteers.
