Daedalus String Quartet & Pianist Awadagin Pratt
|
The Daedalus Quartet, founded in the summer of 2000, won Grand Prize of
the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition, quickly
establishing itself as among America’s outstanding string quartets.
The Daedalus has been the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society Two
quartet, Columbia University’s Quartet-in-Residence, and Visiting
Artists at the University of Pennsylvania.
Awadagin Pratt is acclaimed for his musical insight and intensely involving
performances that receive tremendous audience response. He won the Naumburg
International Piano Competition and was awarded a 1994 Avery Fisher Career
Grant. He is currently Associate Professor of Piano and Artist in
Residence at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of
Cincinnati.

The Carmina String Quartet of Zurich
|
Formed in 1984, the Carmina Quartet from Switzerland is now firmly
established among the top international string quartets. They have gathered
large followings in the major European music centers, as well as in the
United States since their coast-to-coast tour in 1994–95. The Carmina
is joined in this concert by cellist Chiara Enderle, granddaughter of
local notables Ken and Peggy Champney. They will play the great Schubert
Quintet in C along with other string quartet and quintet music.

The Atlantic Brass
|
The Atlantic Brass Quintet launched its career in 1985 with a phenomenal
string of competition victories over a period of two years, including the
Coleman, Carmel, and Shoreline Alliance Chamber Music Competitions, the
Summit Brass and the Rafael Mendez International Brass Quintet
Competitions. The ABQ won the “Premiere Prix” at the 1992
International Brass Competition of Narbonne, France. Its busy concert
career includes performances at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, the
Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Fleet Boston Celebrity Series,
Tanglewood, and the White House. Based in Boston, the ABQ has been the
resident brass quintet of Boston University, the Boston University
Tanglewood Institute, and the Boston Conservatory.

The Albers String Trio
|
From their twos to their twenties the Albers Sisters have been
captivating audiences with musical styles as diverse as their distinctive
personalities and features. From their early performances on the Pearl
Street Mall in Boulder, Colorado, the sisters have gone on to perform at
such venues as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, National Theatre in
Taipei, Severance Hall, Weill Recital Hall, and Zankel Hall. Their
performances have also been seen and heard on Live from Lincoln Center,
Kennedy Center Honors, among others. The Albers Trio is dedicated to fresh
and innovative programming and deeply committed to expanding and
developing audiences for classical music worldwide.

Competition Finals

Two outstanding under-30 professional ensembles chosen by first-round judges
will perform before our Yellow Springs audience for $5000 in prizes. Of the
very few competitions for chamber ensembles, ours is the least restrictive
and attracts some of the best from around the world. Their performances are
often the most intense of the season. Help "discover" next year's
