The Proteus Ensemble with soprano Hai-Ting Chinn

 

 

Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun; Ravel's Piano Trio; Arnold Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire. The Proteus will do a one-day mini-residency with Yellow Springs schoolchildren.

The Amstel Saxophone Quartet, from Amsterdam

 

After winning the CMYS Prize, the Amstel cleaned up all the top prizes in Europe. This daring ensemble must be the hottest young sax quartet in the world.

The Amelia Piano Trio

 

Playing trios by Chopin, Debussy, and Leonard Bernstein while they were still teenagers. The Amelia will give a workshop performance for Yellow Springs High School.

The Corigliano String Quartet

 

Playing quartets by Mozart and John Corigliano.  The Corigliano Quartet was associated with UD before they moved to Washington. They will also give concerts this trip at UD.

Competition Finals

Two of the best under-30 ensembles from around the world will perform before the audience for more than $6000 in prize money.  This is the 25th anniversary of the Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition for Emerging Ensembles and many of our prizewinners have gone on to fame and glory.  All of the ensembles on this year's season are past winners of the CMYS Prize and still young.

EXTRA CONCERTS!

Friday, October 2, 2009: 

Soprano Hai-Ting Chinn and Proteus pianist Jim Johnston will perform songs in French by Debussy and Poulenc. (And we will have some surprises!) The versatile Ms. Chinn, a graduate of Yale and the New England Conservatory, can sing anything from Dido to the Requiem for Fossil Fuels.

 

Friday, February 26, 2010: 

Genius pianist Rieko Aizawa will give a solo recital.  Program TBA.

A child prodigy in Japan, young Ms. Aizawa plays with remarkable intelligence and insight. 

 

Extra (Friday) concerts: $10 adults; $5 students. No advance sales
