The majority of companies in the community rate the community as a good place to conduct business. Downtown also gets high ratings from the companies in the community, although parking is a commonly cited problem.

Retail/Service Sectors
A broad selection of retail and service companies exist in Yellow Springs. The companies are nearly 100% locally owned. The majority of companies employ between 1 and 5 people and draw most of their employees from the Village. The most common pay rate is $6-$8/hr.
Most of these companies were started in the last 20 years, with the last 10 years being the most common period. The majority of companies have experienced growth in sales and customer base over the last 2 years.

Manufacturing Sector
The six major manufacturing firms in the community generated 30 new jobs in the past 5 years, but lost 72 jobs at the same time. The average wages paid at these companies are high compared to other communities in the area. 75% of their employees live outside the Village. There is no local market for the goods produced by these companies. 5 out of 6 are involved in International trade.
