Government
Village Government
The Village of Yellow Springs
is a charter municipality with a Council-Manager form of
government. Village government is led by a five-person
non-partisan council, with 3 members electd every 2 years.
Council appoints the Village Manager, as well as a number of citizen
advisory boards and commissions. The Mayor presides over
Mayor's Court with jurisdiction in civil and criminal cases, as
provided by Ohio Law. Participation in village council
meetings is encouraged and meetings are also televised on the local
public access cable channel.
Township Government
The Miami Township government
is led by 3 township trustees, elected to 4 year terms. The
township clerk is also elected by the citizens. The local fire
department is run by the township.
Public Schools
The borders of the public school district
roughly coincide with the township. The district is led
by a 5-member Board of Education, each member elected
to a 4-year term. The district is an exempted village school
district, organized in 1956 (prior to that date, the schools were a
part of the County schools).
